HUSD takes pride in celebrating the diverse language skills of our students at every stage of their educational journey. HUSD provides various recognitions and awards that honor students' achievements in language development and biliteracy, underscoring the importance of multilingual proficiency in today's global society.
Our recognition programs include the State of California Department of Education's Biliteracy Program Participation Recognition and Home Language Development Recognition for emerging bilingual students. Students who meet specific criteria can earn the Biliteracy Attainment Recognition and the prestigious State Seal of Biliteracy, signifying high levels of proficiency in English and at least one additional language.

A Unique Partnership for Language Testing
Tahquitz High School exemplifies our commitment to linguistic diversity through its unique partnership with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). This collaboration supports students pursuing proficiency in less commonly taught languages. For example, two Tahquitz High School students are working towards earning their State Seal of Biliteracy in Indonesian. UCLA, the only institution in Southern California offering expertise in this area, has graciously assisted Tahquitz High School by facilitating the necessary language assessments. This partnership highlights our district’s dedication to fostering opportunities for students to excel in a variety of languages, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of our community.
